Sky Brown Wins Second Skateboarding World Title
What does it mean for a young athlete to achieve greatness on a global stage? For 17-year-old Sky Brown, it means winning her second skateboarding world title in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on March 9, 2026. This victory not only highlights her exceptional talent but also marks a significant moment as it coincides with International Women’s Day.
Sky Brown scored an impressive 88.16 points to secure the gold medal in the park competition, outperforming her competitors, Mizuho Hasegawa and Minna Stess, who took home the silver and bronze medals with scores of 84.36 and 83.90 respectively. The competition, however, faced challenges due to adverse weather conditions, with recurrent rainfall disrupting the final rounds.
Brown’s journey to this moment has been remarkable. She first gained international recognition when she became Great Britain’s youngest Olympic medal winner at the age of 13 during the Tokyo 2020 Games. Just a year later, she achieved her first world title at the age of 14 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, scoring 90.83 points, making her the first skateboarding world champion for Great Britain.
Leading the competition after two runs, Sky Brown expressed her disappointment when the final was called off due to rain. “The level is crazy. I had to put a lot down to get here, but I am definitely bummed that we couldn’t fully do a final,” she remarked. Despite this setback, her earlier performance was enough to secure her victory.
In her victory speech, Brown expressed gratitude for her win, stating, “This feels huge and I’m so thankful.” She also emphasized the importance of the day, saying, “To win, to be a world champion on International Women’s Day means a lot.” Furthermore, she took a moment to reflect on global issues, adding, “There are bigger things and I just pray for peace for the world.”
Born in Miyazaki, Japan, Sky Brown first competed for Great Britain in 2018. Her rapid rise in the sport has made her a role model for young athletes around the world. As she continues to break records and achieve milestones, her influence extends beyond the skateboarding community.
Looking ahead, Sky Brown’s next challenge will be the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she aims to add another medal to her impressive collection. As she prepares for future competitions, the skateboarding world watches closely, eager to see how she will continue to evolve and inspire.
