Waterloo road: Chelsee Healey Returns for 20th Anniversary

Waterloo Road Celebrates 20 Years with a Familiar Face

Chelsee Healey is returning to Waterloo Road as Janeece Bryant for the show’s 20th anniversary, marking a significant milestone for the beloved series. The revival of the show, which first aired in 2006, has garnered attention as it continues to evolve with new characters and storylines.

Healey expressed her excitement about returning, stating, “I honestly feel like I’m coming home, stepping back into Waterloo Road as Janeece. She’s still as fierce and funny as ever, but now she’s Mummy Janeece – I can’t wait for everyone to see what she’s been up to.” This sentiment reflects the show’s enduring connection with its audience and the character’s evolution over the years.

Janeece Bryant was first introduced as a pupil and later became the school secretary, showcasing the character’s growth throughout the series. Healey’s brief return during season 11 for Chlo Thomas’s funeral highlighted the show’s ability to weave past characters into current narratives, maintaining continuity within its storytelling.

The upcoming season promises to introduce a fresh cast of students and staff members. New students include Leo Ashton as Liam Shaw, Callum Broome as Nathan Clark, Yousef Naseer as Ibrahim Azzi, Lewis Pemberton as Cane Morris, and Keelan Wright as Marshall Clark. Additionally, new staff members such as Tashinga Bepete as Edward Connell, Cora Kirk as Leah Merchant, and Mollie Winnard as Gemma Tully will be introduced, adding to the dynamic of the school environment.

The new season is set to air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer later this year, allowing fans to engage with the series in a modern format. The original series, encompassing ten seasons, remains available on BBC iPlayer, offering both new viewers and long-time fans a chance to revisit the show’s history.

Waterloo Road has experienced numerous changes in characters and storylines over its 20-year history, demonstrating its ability to adapt and resonate with different generations. Cameron Roach, a key figure in the show’s production, noted, “This is a real coming of age moment for Waterloo Road, a show that we believe can continue to refresh itself for a new generation.” Roach emphasized that Janeece “truly reflects the spirit and humour of the show, and the common thread that unites the many generations of the show.”

As the show gears up for its 20th anniversary celebration, which took place on March 9, 2026, it has also been renewed for a 19th series, expected in 2027. This renewal indicates a strong commitment to the series’ future and its ongoing relevance in the television landscape. Observers are keen to see how the new characters and storylines will unfold, but details remain unconfirmed.
