Watford FC Introduces Innovative Matchday Programme and Family Zone Enhancements

What Happened

Watford FC has launched a new print-on-demand matchday programme, allowing fans to order personalized editions featuring their own photos. This initiative was unveiled on February 21, following the club’s decision to replace its traditional matchday programme with a digital version last August due to declining sales.

Additionally, the club has applied to Watford Borough Council to modify its premises licence to expand family zones within the stadium for both matchdays and non-matchday events.

Why It Matters

The new matchday programme, developed in collaboration with Pureprint Group and powered by Early Doors Sport, aims to provide fans with a physical keepsake while promoting sustainability through zero waste. Kevin Affleck, Watford FC’s head of communications, emphasized the importance of this move as a way to enhance the matchday experience and generate profit without upfront costs.

The proposed changes to the family zones would allow for a more versatile matchday experience, including the potential to serve alcohol and host events outside of matchdays, thereby increasing engagement with the local community.

What’s Next

If the premises licence variation is approved, Watford FC could implement these enhancements in the near future, potentially hosting themed events during non-matchdays. The club continues to prioritize fan engagement and accessibility, as highlighted by its participation in the Level Playing Field’s Unite for Access campaign, which promotes inclusivity in sports.
