New Developments in the World’s Tallest Buildings: Trump Tower and American Express Headquarters

What Happened

Plans have been announced for a new Trump Tower on the Gold Coast in Australia, which is projected to reach a height of 340 meters and consist of 91 storeys. Property developer David Young confirmed that a deal was signed with The Trump Organization to construct the tower, which will feature a luxury resort, beach club, swimming pool, and restaurants. Additionally, American Express has officially declared its move to 2 World Trade Center in New York City, where it will become the sole owner and occupant of the nearly 2 million square foot skyscraper.

Why It Matters

The Trump Tower is expected to surpass the Australia 108 building in Melbourne by 15 meters, positioning it as Australia’s tallest building. Young emphasized that the tower will redefine luxury in Australian resort properties. Meanwhile, the relocation of American Express to 2 World Trade Center marks a significant milestone in the ongoing redevelopment of the World Trade Center complex, which has been a focal point of urban renewal since the 9/11 attacks.

What’s Next

Construction for the Trump Tower is already underway, with an estimated cost of $1.5 billion, while American Express plans to begin construction on its headquarters in the spring, with completion expected by 2031. Both projects are set to enhance their respective skylines and contribute to the global conversation surrounding the world’s tallest buildings.
