Lossiemouth’s Remarkable Achievement
“She’s a star mare. To come back four years in a row, let alone win, that is incredible,” remarked Willie Mullins, the trainer of Lossiemouth, following her impressive victory in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.
Lossiemouth, owned by Rich Ricci, was the 7-5 favorite in the race and finished six and a half lengths ahead of her nearest competitor, Brighterdaysahead. This victory marks her fourth win at the Cheltenham Festival, further establishing her legacy in the sport.
Having previously triumphed in the Mares’ Hurdle twice and the Triumph Hurdle in 2023, Lossiemouth has now won 14 of her 18 races, with ten victories at Grade One level. Her performance in the Champion Hurdle solidifies her position among the elite mares in the history of the festival.
“Unbelievable, magic, great. It is hard to win these races, and she always tries,” said Rich Ricci, expressing his pride in Lossiemouth’s achievements. The horse’s consistency and determination have made her a fan favorite.
Lossiemouth is now the eighth mare to win the Champion Hurdle, a feat that adds to her remarkable resume. For the first time, she sported cheekpieces during the race, which may have contributed to her outstanding performance.
Paul Townend, the jockey who rode Lossiemouth, commented, “I think she’s so honest and genuine, that on her back you know whether it is happening or not.” His confidence in the horse was evident throughout the race.
As Lossiemouth continues to impress, she is being hailed as one of the Festival greats. “Lossiemouth will be crowned queen of Cheltenham! The truth is – she is far too good,” noted commentator John Hunt, highlighting the horse’s exceptional talent.
With this victory, Lossiemouth’s future in racing looks bright, and fans eagerly anticipate her next appearances on the track. The legacy of Rich Ricci horses continues to grow with each remarkable performance.
